One of the things I love about Aberdeen is the fact that for a small city, it actually has everything (almost) that you would expect from somewhere much bigger. One of the things I’m not so keen on is the obvious dominance of the oil industry here, as it brings with it possibly the worst in “passing through trade” that anyone working in service industries would want themselves to be subjected to.
The enigma of one person from a working class background suddenly finding themselves earning a middle class income may just increase the relative size of their head just slightly. Imagine a whole worldwide industry full to overflowing of such individuals, perpetually feeding each other. Its the ultimate in superiority complex gone mad.
Aberdeen has all it has at least partly due to the oil industry. That includes all the great shops and places to visit, but also the ridiculous cost of a hotel room, the price to buy a house, the cost of living, the price of a pint of beer, and the noise coming from those who brought it all..
